We have all heard the warning of never eating after 8 p.m. or you’ll gain weight. Turns out, this idea has more to do with counting your calories — not controlling your metabolism. Even so, here are some ways to avoid adding those end-of-the-day calories, as well as what to do if you just can’t avoid that late-evening snack.
Eat a Full and Satisfying Dinner
Most people hit their daily caloric intake requirements by dinner, so having a set time to stop eating might stop you from consuming more than you should. And keep you from eating out of boredom.Drink Tea
Create the habit of making a nightly cup of hot herbal tea instead of reaching for a snack. Not only can herbal tea soothe and calm you, but it can curb cravings and hunger. Try out different options such as chamomile, lemon or caffeine-free green tea. And remember: sometimes hunger pangs are actually signs of dehydration.Brush Your Teeth
If all else fails, brush your teeth! After a good brushing, it signals to your brain that your bedtime routine has started. Plus, nothing you eat will taste delicious enough to keep eating.Go to Bed at a Reasonable Time

If a nighttime snack is something you just can’t let go of, it’s not the end of the world. Your metabolism doesn’t actually shut down at night; just be sure to make good food choices like lean proteins, vegetables and healthy fats instead of ice cream, cookies and cake.
