7 Must-have Cleaning Tools for Your Bathroom

Keep your bathroom sparkling clean and free from mildew with these 7 essential tools.

Having effective tools on hand makes cleaning the bathroom easier and quicker. Keep our seven suggested supplies in the bathroom to streamline your cleaning routine.

7 Essential Bathroom-cleaning Supplies

1. Squeegee

Use a squeegee to remove excess moisture from the walls and door of the shower or tub after every use. It will drastically cut down on moisture, mildew and soap scum, which can be difficult to remove later. Use a squeegee with glass cleaner to make cleaning mirrors and windows a snap, too.

Tip: Even when you use a squeegee regularly, soap scum happens. To scrub it off your bathroom surfaces, use a Mr. Clean Foaming Bath Scrubber.

2. Toilet Brush

For quick-and-easy toilet cleaning, keep a toilet brush in a decorative holder next to the toilet bowl. Dispense cleaner into the bowl, let it sit for several minutes (or per the instructions on the bottle) and then clean the bowl and rim with the brush. Dry all surfaces with a paper towel.

Tip: Fill the toilet-bowl brush holder with bleach to disinfect it between cleanings.

3. Disposable Wipes or Disinfectant Cleaner and Sponge

Worried about germs on bathroom surfaces? Keep a container of disposable disinfectant wipes under your bathroom sinks to wipe down the sink, counter, tub and toilet every day. Or, keep a bottle of disinfectant spray and a sponge nearby to reduce the spread of germs — and preserve your peace of mind!

Tip: After washing your face, use your washcloth to prewipe the countertop and remove stray hairs or toothpaste residue. Then use the disinfectant wipes or cleaner to kill germs.

4. Multisurface Cleaner and Lint-free Rag

A versatile cleaner will make your bathroom sparkle! We like Mr. Clean Clean Freak Spray because the mist activates on contact to cut through dirt right away. Use it to wipe down faucets, handles, mirrors, glass doors and ceramic. While it’s no substitute for disinfecting surfaces (you should do that first), multisurface spray will help make the whole room gleam.

Tip: Be sure to wash your lint-free rag without fabric softener once a week.

5. Rubber Gloves

Cleaning your bathroom can do a number on your hands. Protect them with a quality pair of rubber gloves. Rinse well after each use and hang to dry before storing.

Tip: Sanitize your rubber gloves every few weeks by running them through the dishwasher (top rack only) or by adding them to a load of rags when you do laundry. Let them air-dry and they’ll be as good as new.

6. Old Toothbrush

If your bathroom has a lot of tile, you’ll definitely want to keep an old toothbrush or two on hand — nothing cleans grout lines better. Keep brushes clean by rinsing well after use, and toss them once the bristles start to fray or bend.

7. Scrub Brush

To truly deep-clean the tub and shower, there’s no substitute for a scrub brush. For maximum effectiveness, first apply cleaner and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Then scrub well with the brush.

Tip: Read the care instructions for your tub or shower before scrubbing. Some surfaces can easily scratch and should not be cleaned with abrasive cleaners or brushes.
